1. Paddle Segment Deflection Physics

The ball's rebound trajectory is not based on simple reflection. Instead, the paddle is segmented:

  • Center Rebound: Returning the ball with the center of your paddle bounces it straight back horizontally. This is safe, controlled, and slow.
  • Edge Rebound: Deflecting the ball with the very top or bottom corners of the paddle adds a high angular velocity, sending the ball at sharp diagonals. Use this to catch opponents off guard.

2. Power-Up Management

Golden power-ups spawn periodically in the center zone. Hitting the power-up applies an effect to the player who struck the ball last:

  • Big (↕): Extends your paddle length by 1.5x, creating a large defensive barrier.
  • Shrink (↔): Reduces the size of your opponent's paddle, making their defense much harder.
  • Speed (⚡): Accelerates the ball velocity, demanding faster reflexes.

Control the center of the board to steer the ball directly into active power-ups.

3. Shared Keyboard Ergonomics

Since Neon Duel is played locally, spatial awareness is key. Player 1 (W/S) and Player 2 (Arrow keys) should position themselves comfortably. Input latency is minimized through optimized keyboard event listeners, ensuring instant paddle responses.
